How to apply

Please read information about the rooms, rent etc. first.

It is not easy to get a room. We receive more applications than there are rooms available.

We do not ever have rooms available for a few days or a couple of weeks. The minimum period is one month. If you want a room for a few days, try a Youth Hostel.

There are three ways to get a room at Studentergaarden:

Subletting

You can try to sublet a room from a resident while they are away travelling. Write an email by using this form

Your email will be automatically posted on our electronic notice board - you are writing a general query to 130 people.

You will only receive an answer if someone wants to sublet their room to you. If you receive no answer, it means there are no rooms available at the moment.

It is not certain that anyone will read your email - it is just posted on an electronic notice board all residents can read. If no one wants to rent their room out at the moment, no one will read the messages. If you have a concrete question about Studentergaarden that requires an answer, you can contact us instead - but please check the web site first, most questions are answered here.

It is unfortunately not very likely you will receive an answer, so look other places as well. We receive many more requests for rooms than there are residents who want to sublet their rooms out.

The International Office

The International Office at Copenhagen University distributes 2 rooms at Studentergaarden to international students. However, since you are here reading this it may mean you have already been told the Intenational Office cannot provide a room for you. You can find the International Office at

Normal Application

Normal application is intended for students who live in Denmark and is usually not suitable for international students, because:

  • The deadlines for application are only twice a year - the 1st. of March and the 1st. of October
  • If you are accepted, there is usually a 3-8 month waiting list before you actually get a room
Therefore, the application form is only available in Danish. We do not have it in English. We will not send you an application form in English. If this is not a problem for you (you are in good time and do not mind waiting 3-8 months, and do not mind finding help or using a dictonary to understand the form) you are very welcome to apply. You are welcome to fill the form out in English. The application form is available here, in Danish only. All students of higher education who have passed 1 year of studies are eligible.

Rooms elswhere

We cannot help you find a room elsewhere. Do not bother asking. We do not know anything the International Office at Copenhagen University does not know, and they get paid to help you. You can also see our links
